Same-Day Crown Fabrication
When a tooth is structurally damaged due to trauma or decay, sometimes, it needs to be crowned or “capped” to restore its appearance and function. A crown is a custom-made restoration designed to fit over the entire tooth above the gumline. Traditionally, getting a crown takes two to three visits and several weeks of waiting for the lab to create the restoration. Now, there’s a much more convenient alternative: same-day crowns made right here in our dental office using advanced dental technology. We’re able to create lifelike, durable restorations without the wait! To find out if you could benefit from same-day crowns in Fryeburg, Maine, schedule a visit with Dr. Harper or Dr. Hennessy today.
How Same-Day Crown Fabrication Works
First, Dr. Harper or Dr. Hennessy prepares the tooth by removing any decay and shaping it so that it will fit perfectly inside of the crown. Then, they use a small scanning wand attached to a computer to take quick, comfortable digital pictures inside of your mouth. The computer generates a precise, 3D model of your teeth in seconds.
With the help of Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing, known as CAD/CAM, software, your crown is designed while you’re at our office. We can even create a mirror image of the tooth on the opposite side of your mouth for the most realistic-looking results. Once the crown is designed, we choose a block of dental ceramic material in a shade that closely matches your own teeth. The computer sends the digital design to a milling machine that carves the crown out of the ceramic block in approximately five minutes.
Dr Harper or Dr. Hennessy will ensure the crown fits and they’ll make any needed aesthetic enhancements like staining or glazing before bonding it to your tooth. WIth a conventional crown, you’d wear a temporary restoration for a few weeks until the lab finished creating the permanent crown. With same-day crown fabrication, you’ll walk out of our office with a gorgeous, permanent restoration.
